First Lutheran voted, in 2006, to contribute $3,000 dollars
over the next 3 years to the Rocky Mountain District’s Mission: South Africa. This mission goes to help a Seminary in
Pretoria, care for victims of Aids in Botswana, and a cattle dipping project
outside of Durban. The district hopes to raise $500,000 towards these projects
by the end of this year, to be matched by LCMS Human Care and World Relief. So
far they have raised over 210,000.
If you are interested in contributing to this you can mark
an offering “Mission” at our 9:00 AM Services on Sunday Morning. Our Easter
Brunch will also be dedicated to this project. You can also contribute directly, and learn more about the project through the Rocky Mountain Website.
This mission is dear to the Pastor’s heart as he spent two
years of his childho
od in Botswana, where is dad served as a missionary. He
likes to think that maybe he is helping out some of his boy hood friends that
would meet for Friday night boxing bouts in a makeshift ring he had in his
front yard.
Or perhaps even the Children of those who taught him to make a
sling shot with rubber from an old bicycle inner tube and a forked stick. Those are cherished memories. I could never quite aim as well as them though. I swear the could hit a snake in the head at 25 yards. I was lucky to hit the side of our Garage. But then I didn't have to return home with dinner.
